The Benefits of Microventing Wallcovering

HomeBlogThe Benefits of Microventing Wallcovering

Vinyl wallcoverings in industrial, commercial, and residential applications are initially non-perforated. Microperforation allows these materials to breathe without spoiling the aesthetics of the material. The perforations are so small that they do not disturb the visual impact of the wallcovering to the eye. There is no change to the texture, coloration, or pattern.

The Benefits of Microventing Wallcovering

So, why is microventing wallcovering beneficial? In areas where there are high humidity/condensation concerns, or where the material is subject to direct moisture, non-perforated materials can trap moisture. This sets up ideal conditions for the growth of mildew and mold. Mold and mildew can compromise the integrity of the adhesive holding the wallcovering to the wall and can cause a health hazard. Microventing wallcovering is one of the foundations for good construction practices.

Perforation tooling pierces tiny perforations in the wallcovering material and allows airflow. This passes moisture to the outside of the wallcovering so it can evaporate and not be trapped. Various hole sizes and hole densities are available, with some being considered standard in the industry. The results can be checked with a permeability tester and standard moisture detection testing using ASTM standards and laboratories.
